Job summary

Stony Brook University is seeking a Buyer to support purchasing for researchers, faculty, and staff. The role emphasizes strong writing, reading, and verbal communication, with the ability to negotiate and manage multiple tasks to meet schedule requirements.

The candidate will handle commodity purchases, build supplier relationships, and coordinate purchase orders while ensuring compliance with SUNY and university standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) and two years of full-time procurement experience.
• Associate’s degree with four years of directly related full-time experience may be considered.
• Strong computer skills including experience with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

• Support the purchasing needs of Stony Brook University researchers, faculty, and support staff with excellent writing, reading, and verbal communication.
• Negotiate and execute routine and complex commodity purchases using IFBs and RFPs when necessary, leveraging NYS OGS contracts.
• Build strong relationships with the Campus Community and other functional groups to translate needs into clear product specs or detailed scopes of work for competitive bidding.
• Coordinate and communicate with campus departments to facilitate timely processing of purchase orders and blanket orders; work with Accounts Payable, Systems & Operations, and Central Receiving.
• Maintain procurement records, create reports, and manage WolfMart Contracts+ module; expedite orders and assist with SUNY fiscal year-end procedures.
