Job summary

Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School in Fitchburg, MA is seeking a Payroll/Benefits Specialist to start immediately. The role supports payroll, benefits administration, and personnel records for a 12-month, full-time position at 37.5 hours per week.

Responsibilities include processing payroll, setting up new employees, managing deductions, COBRA and unemployment, and ensuring compliance with wage and hour laws. Experience with MTRS/MSRB and Checkwriters is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a High School Diploma.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in payroll, accounting, bookkeeping, or related field.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to maintain confidential information.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, payroll software, MTRS and MSRB.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required.

Responsibilities

• Maintains, updates, processes, and proofs payrolls; reviews timesheets.
• Sets up full-time employee accounts with deductions and direct deposits.
• Submits payroll vendor payments bi-weekly and monthly.
• Submits deduction reports to MTRS and MSRB bi-weekly/monthly.
• Assists staff with questions about payroll and benefits.
• Onboarding new employees with Checkwriters and Employee Navigator.
• Manages employee status changes, COBRA, unemployment.
• Ensures benefit enrollment and accurate deductions.
• Maintains payroll/medical records and confidential files.
• Ensures compliance with wage/hour laws.
• Schedules 7D and DOT physicals.
