Job summary

Adelbrook, a Connecticut nonprofit serving children and young adults on the autism spectrum and with IDD, seeks a Controller to drive the monthly close, ensure timely and accurate financial statements, and oversee agency reporting to DDS, DSS, DCF, and OPM.

You will strengthen internal controls, build financial models, and mentor accounting staff while partnering with program leadership to advance Adelbrook’s mission and maintain regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 7–10 years of progressive accounting and financial management.
• 3–5 years in a nonprofit organization, preferably health and human services.
• Experience with cost reports and financial submissions to DDS, DSS, DCF, OPM, or similar government bodies.
• Experience managing annual audits and nonprofit financial statements.

Responsibilities

• Lead the monthly financial close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements.
• Prepare monthly internal financial reports, including statements of activities, balance sheet, budgets, and KPIs.
• Analyze operating results and communicate financial trends, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership.
• Develop and maintain financial reporting tools to support program and department decision-making.
• Oversee Accounts Payable and General Ledger activities and ensure regulatory reporting requirements.
• Coordinate and prepare all required financial reports and filings, including state agency submissions.
• Assist with the annual operating budget process and financial forecasts.
• Support external audits and Form 990 preparation and related filings.
