Job summary

Pathways for Children, Inc. in Gloucester, MA seeks a seasoned Controller to lead accounting operations and strengthen financial reporting for a mission-driven nonprofit.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Controller will oversee general ledger, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, grant accounting, and year-end close, while driving internal controls and system improvements to advance organizational goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
• Experience in nonprofit organizations preferred.
• Experience leading external audits and complex financial reporting.
• Experience supervising staff and collaborating with leadership.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting operations: general ledger, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, cash receipts, and payroll processing.
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls, policies, and procedures for growth and compliance.
• Partner with Director of Finance on budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and long-range planning.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; manage annual audit.
