Job summary

Holocaust Museum Houston seeks a seasoned Controller to lead finance, accounting, and reporting. You will partner with the CFO and leadership to ensure GAAP-compliant financials, strong internal controls, and timely budgets and audits.

The role requires oversight of payroll, AP/AR, general ledger, and cash flow while developing staff and implementing process improvements in a nonprofit setting. A CPA and nonprofit experience are highly valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited four-year college or university.
• Five or more years of progressively responsible accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit organization.
• Experience supervising and developing accounting staff preferred.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
• Experience with nonprofit accounting, audits, budgeting, and financial reporting strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the Museum’s accounting and financial operations.
• Prepare and coordinate internal and external financial reporting.
• Manage the annual budget, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
• Oversee the annual audit, tax filings, regulatory reporting, and other financial compliance requirements.
• Maintain effective accounting processes, internal controls, and financial systems.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and general ledger functions.
• Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and investment reporting.
• Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support organizational decision-making.
• Hire, supervise, train, and develop accounting staff.
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve financial processes and operations.
