Job summary

The American Museum of Natural History is seeking a full-time Assistant Controller to lead financial accounting, tax compliance, and reporting activities, ensuring adherence to Museum policy and regulations. You will manage the General Ledger, Chart of Accounts, reconciliations, fixed-asset, lease, grant, and endowment accounting.

Responsibilities include directing Finance operations, budgeting, policy development, and leading monthly close, financial statements, and audits.

Qualifications

CPA designation required.
Seven years progressive accounting experience, including leadership at a managerial or director level.
Extensive knowledge of nonprofit fund accounting, financial reporting, and/or tax.
Strong systems experience with major ERP systems, including system maintenance, reporting, and analytics.

Responsibilities

Direct and provide leadership for Finance operations and administration, ensuring confidentiality and mission alignment.
Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and reconciliations, coordinate with Budget & Financial Planning to open/close accounts.
Lead financial reporting and investments, including the endowment portfolio.
Oversee monthly close, prepare financial statements with variance analyses, and manage debt issuance and cash forecasts.
Prepare annual financial statements and footnotes per US GAAP; lead audits with external auditors; prepare Form 990 returns.
