Job summary

Holocaust Museum Houston is seeking a Controller to oversee the museum's accounting and financial operations, ensuring accuracy, internal controls, and timely reporting. The role partners with the Chief Financial & Operating Officer and executive leadership to support planning and decision-making with solid financial analysis.

Key duties include budgeting, forecasting, audits, tax filings, cash flow management, and supervising accounting staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited four-year college or university.
• Five or more years of progressively responsible accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit.
• CPA certification preferred.
• Experience with nonprofit accounting, audits, budgeting, and financial reporting strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the Museum’s accounting and financial operations.
• Prepare and coordinate internal and external financial reporting.
• Manage the annual budget, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
• Oversee the annual audit, tax filings, regulatory reporting, and other financial compliance requirements.
• Maintain effective accounting processes, internal controls, and financial systems.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and general ledger functions.
• Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and investment reporting.
• Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support organizational decision-making.
• Hire, supervise, train, and develop accounting staff.
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve financial processes and operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills

5+ years accounting experience

Nonprofit accounting experience

GAAP/financial reporting knowledge

Leadership/supervisory experience

CPA (preferred)
