Job summary

The Virginia Department of Transportation seeks a seasoned maintenance operations leader to coordinate resources, direct programs, and drive long-range plans that protect Virginia’s road network and support the economy. You will oversee budget development, emergency response, environmental compliance, equipment management and workforce development while ensuring safety and regulatory adherence.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications include strong communication with the public, property owners, contractors and VDOT staff.
• Ability to plan and coordinate resources, manage multiple projects and schedules; assess training needs and provide workforce development opportunities.
• Ability to supervise and manage diverse staff by analyzing needs and implementing recommendations to support organizational values and goals.
• Ability to understand, apply, and advocate for safety standards and procedures for implementation into the workforce.
• Considerable knowledge of federal and state highway and transportation rules, regulations, and policies.
• Considerable knowledge of inventory management.
• Considerable knowledge of roadway constructions and maintenance operations, equipment, materials, and techniques.
• Skill in the use of computers and software applications.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and direct maintenance operations and resource management.
• Develop and manage workforce development, schedules, budgets and long-range plans.
• Direct emergency operations including inclement weather and disaster response.
• Ensure environmental permits and compliance are met in maintenance activities.
• Manage equipment resources and preventive maintenance programs.
• Oversee purchasing, inventory and IMS compliance and budget management.
• Lead safety initiatives and promote a safety culture within maintenance teams.
• Oversee pavement resurfacing planning and execution.
• Supervise maintenance staff and ensure efficient, compliant operations.
