Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation seeks a hardworking highway maintenance worker to perform skilled equipment operation, preventive maintenance and manual labor to keep Virginia roadways in good condition.

You will participate in emergency operations, snow removal, and traffic control while ensuring safety and compliance with regulations. A valid driver's license is required and prior experience in roadway maintenance is preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.
• Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures.
• Skill in the operation and maintenance of hand-held and power tools.
• Skill in the operation and maintenance of light and medium equipment used for highway maintenance and repair.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain light, medium, and heavy-duty highway equipment to perform maintenance and construction activities.
• Prepare and operate equipment for snow and ice removal or other types of emergency operations. Clear roadways of snow, ice and debris and provide accident clean-up and traffic control during and after normal working hours.
• Demonstrate proper work site protection techniques and maintain a safe work environment.
• Follow VDOT safety regulations and practices.
