Job summary

Mesabi Metallics Company LLC in Minnesota is seeking a Logistics & Commercial Analyst to own pricing, shipment, inventory, contract and logistics data, and to provide decision-support for commercial and S&OP planning.

You will analyze provisional pricing, mark-to-market for open shipments, assess exposure, and deliver data packs and management reports to inform pricing and sales decisions.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of analytical, commercial, logistics, finance, supply chain or related experience; mining, commodities or industrial experience preferred.
• Advanced spreadsheet and data-analysis skills with strong attention to detail and data quality.
• Understanding of pricing, freight, settlement, shipment or contract data and the ability to assess and resolve discrepancies.
• Strong analytical writing, reporting and communication skills with the ability to present information clearly to decision-makers.
• Ability to manage recurring reporting requirements and ad hoc analysis in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Ensure integrity of shipment, volume, inventory, pricing and logistics data. Evaluate exceptions and data-quality issues, decide how serious they are,and decide on corrective action.
• Analyze provisional and final pricing outcomes and own mark-to-market reporting for open shipments and commercial positions. Interpret exposure and advise the CCO on pricing risk.
• Select, validate and maintain the pricing indices, pellet premiums, freight inputs and historical market data that underpin commercial analysis and assumptions.
• Develop pricing, netback, landed-cost and other commercial analyses, and present conclusions and recommendations to the CCO and Manager –Commercial & Market Strategy – North America to support pricing and sales decisions.
• Monitor contract drawdown, customer volumes and delivery status against commitments. Identify risks to contract performance and recommend actions.
• Evaluate logistics KPIs, including railcar utilization/cycle time, terminal throughput, demurrage and service performance. Diagnose root causes and recommend operational or commercial improvements.
• Review freight invoices, settlements, demurrage/despatch claims and supporting records. Assess validity, decide which discrepancies to dispute, and work with carriers, terminals and service providers to resolve them.
• Lead weight/quality reconciliation, analyze surveyor/lab results and shipment certification data, and assess their commercial impact on settlements.
• Design and prepare S&OP data packs, dashboards and management reports. Carry out ad hoc analysis to support commercial and logistics decisions.
• Reconcile contract commitments, provisional/final settlements and open commercial actions. Carry out market and competitor research and turn the findings into recommendations for commercial strategy.
