Job summary

Harvard University’s Harvard Law School Library seeks a Manager for Collection Development & Resource Strategy to lead the library’s collection development program, including budgeting, policy implementation, and licensing negotiations. The role supervises two librarians and partners with Harvard Library central offices and external collaborators to advance scholarly collections.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Library/Information Science (ALA-accredited) or equivalent with 4+ years of professional experience.
• Experience in academic or law library environments, with supervisory responsibilities.
• Familiarity with Alma/Alma Analytics and licensing of electronic resources.
• Ability to use data and financial information to inform decisions.
• Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills; collaborative mindset.

Responsibilities

• Lead collection development and budget strategy in line with priorities set by the Director for Collections.
• Manage license negotiations and contracts for electronic resources.
• Develop policies, workflows, and evaluation methods for sustainable collections.
• Coordinate with Harvard Library central offices and external partners.
• Supervise staff including librarians and coordinators.
• Build relationships with publishers, vendors, and consortia partners.
• Support access needs and mitigate institutional risk through careful licensing.
