Job summary

Northeastern University—Oakland Campus is seeking an Assistant Director of Undergraduate Academic Advising to lead the advising team, shape services, and oversee student success initiatives. The role partners with the Director to hire, train, and support Academic Advisors while implementing advising technology and data-driven retention strategies.

Responsibilities include managing daily operations, mentoring staff, maintaining records, participating in orientation, and collaborating on course

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work, or other relevant fields; 2–3 years advising, including supervisory experience.
• Experience with diverse student populations; excellent oral and written communication.
• Understanding of advising processes and educational requirements; strong organizational skills.
• Proficiency with advising technology and various software applications; ability to work in a team.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a caseload and guide students toward academic goals.
• Explain policies, monitor progress, and make referrals as needed.
• Manage the Oakland Advising team on a day-to-day basis.
• Hire, supervise, mentor and train Academic Advisors.
• Maintain student records and update advising platforms.
• Assist with orientation and represent advising on committees.
• Collaborate to improve student support and retention strategies.
