Job summary

Ballard Spahr LLP is seeking a Business Development Manager in Marketing/Communications to support the Intellectual Property practice. The role collaborates with IP leadership, attorneys and marketing professionals to drive growth, expand client relationships, and elevate the firm’s market presence.

This hybrid position requires strategic thinking, collaboration, and strong communication. The candidate will develop BD plans, manage pipelines, coach lawyers, and coordinate BD efforts with client

Qualifications

• Five years of legal marketing experience, with prior law firm experience.
• Experience supporting Intellectual Property or similar practice groups preferred.
• Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
• Strong project management, interpersonal, and analytical abilities.
• Proficiency with CRM platforms, marketing databases, and other business development technologies.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic business development plans for the IP practice.
• Build and maintain a rolling pipeline of targets and opportunities.
• Provide business development coaching in group and one-on-one settings.
• Coordinate BD efforts across practices and industries and lead IP content for pitches and RFPs.
• Oversee events, sponsorships, and other marketing and communications activities.
• Build relationships with key organizations as a market-facing resource for the firm.
