Job summary

Ballard Spahr LLP in Washington, DC, seeks a Business Development Manager to advance the IP practice through strategic plans, client relationships, and market positioning. Reporting to Senior Director and working with attorneys and marketing professionals, you will drive growth and elevate the firm's profile.

You will build and sustain a rolling pipeline, coach lawyers on BD activities, coordinate cross‑practice initiatives, and contribute IP content for pitches, RFPs, and events.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required; minimum five years of legal marketing experience, with IP or similar practice experience preferred.
Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills; strong project management and analytical abilities.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute strategic business development plans for the IP practice.
Maintain and sharpen a rolling pipeline of targets and opportunities.
Provide BD coaching in group and one-on-one settings for attorneys' BD plans.
Coordinate BD initiatives across practices and industries; assist with proposals and RFP responses.
Collaborate with events and communications teams on events, sponsorships and marketing activities.
Build relationships with key organizations as a market-facing resource.
