Job summary

Alaska Village Electric Cooperative (AVEC) is seeking a Human Resources Manager to strengthen the organization by modernizing processes and creating a workplace where employees feel supported and valued. You will lead HR practices across a geographically dispersed workforce, aligning with mission and values while ensuring regulatory compliance and employee development.

The role partners with leadership to drive strategic HR initiatives, manage performance, and oversee compensation and payroll.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related field; master’s degree or HR certification preferred.
• At least 5 years of progressive HR experience including leadership responsibilities.
• Strong knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and HR best practices.
• Understanding of compensation, benefits, and payroll processes.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while balancing day-to-day operations and long-term improvements.
• Effective communication and trust-building across all levels of the Cooperative.

Responsibilities

• Partner with CEO and leadership to plan and execute HR initiatives.
• Guide employee relations with consistency, fairness, and accountability.
• Oversee compensation, benefits, payroll, and annual wage adjustments.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and contractor rules.
• Oversee HR administration, including leave, workers' compensation, and HR systems.
• Lead recruitment, onboarding, training, and development efforts.
