Job summary

American Water seeks a Director of Business Development (State) in California to identify and analyze growth opportunities, including acquisitions, joint ventures, and partnerships. You will collaborate with enterprise leaders, conduct analyses, and deliver conclusive recommendations to drive the company’s strategic plan.

Responsibilities include leading offer/bid strategies, financing considerations, and coordinating cross-functional resources to execute deals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Master’s preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• 15 years of experience in business or state/municipal government.
• Previous experience managing a team is required.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Applications, strong Excel and PowerPoint knowledge.
• Salesforce experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Build a pipeline of target opportunities and develop tactical plans for sustainable growth.
• Lead the development of offer/bid strategy and deal structuring.
• Identify, secure, and manage cross-functional resources to evaluate and structure offers/bids.
• Develop creative approaches to opportunities reflecting client needs and strategic priorities.
• Create market awareness for California American Water and maintain its brand with key stakeholders.
• Engage with regional organizations and government leaders to support regulatory and policy developments.
• Direct preparation of proposals for acquisitions and related opportunities; track regulatory trends.
• Participate in meetings with local leaders and stakeholders to present advantages of California American Water.
