Job summary

Crane Service Company, Inc. is seeking a Senior Transportation and Logistics Coordinator to oversee daily dispatching, scheduling, and coordination of company trucks and outside haulers across Maryland, Virginia, DC, and surrounding areas.

The role collaborates with project teams, dispatch, warehouse, drivers, and fleet personnel to plan freight movements, meet delivery commitments, and maximize truck utilization while controlling costs and managing E-ZPass administration.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in freight dispatch and logistics scheduling preferred.
• Experience coordinating with outside carriers and vendors.
• Proficiency with Excel, Outlook, dispatch software, GPS tracking, and E-ZPass.

Responsibilities

• Plan and dispatch daily and upcoming freight loads, coordinating priorities with project managers and warehouse teams.
• Assign suitable trucks, trailers, and drivers based on load dimensions, weight, and site access.
• Coordinate pickups and deliveries between CSC facilities and project locations with clear load details.
• Track assignments, locations, arrival times, and delays; communicate status changes promptly.
• Anticipate freight needs and coordinate multiple shipments across competing schedules.
• Improve fleet utilization through load consolidation, return loads, and minimized idle time.
• Secure outside freight carriers; compare quotes within approved limits and verify insurance.
• Monitor carrier reliability and address disruptions or capacity shortages.
• Maintain dispatch, GPS, load, and truck records; review freight bills and carrier invoices for accuracy.
• Report utilization, delivery performance, and savings opportunities to the VP; suggest process improvements.
• Exercise independent judgment in daily scheduling; authority limits are VP-approved.
