Job summary

Museum of Fine Arts, Boston seeks a Director of Financial Planning and Analysis to lead budgeting, forecasting and long‑range financial planning. You will partner with the CFO and leadership to develop financial plans aligning with the Museum’s mission and strategic priorities.

The role oversees operating and capital budgets, builds models, analyzes performance, and provides insights for decision‑making across the organization. Endowment familiarity and nonprofit experience are valued.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Business Analytics, Economics or a related field (or equivalent).
  • 10+ years of progressive FP&A, budgeting, forecasting experience including leadership roles.
  • Experience in a mid-to-large nonprofit with familiarity with endowment accounting.
  • Experience supporting executive leadership and governing boards.
  • Experience developing complex financial models and long-range forecasts.
  • Experience hiring, training and coaching staff, building a collaborative team.
  • Proactive, solutions-minded approach to performance issues.
  • Advanced ability to organize, analyze and interpret data from multiple sources.
  • Excellent quantitative, financial modeling and analytical skills.
  • Strong executive-level verbal and written communication; able to present to leadership and Trustees.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information in lay terms.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills across departments.
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization and project management abilities.
  • Professionalism, integrity and discretion with confidential information.
  • Commitment to staying current with best practices, legal requirements and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead annual operating and capital budgets and multiyear strategic financial plans.
  • Partner with department leaders on budget development, resource planning and needs assessment.
  • Develop and maintain short- and long-term financial models for planning and special projects.
  • Provide monthly, quarterly and annual analyses for senior leadership and the Board.
  • Analyze actuals against budgets, forecasts and prior year performance; identify risks and opportunities.
  • Lead financial modeling for strategic initiatives and capital projects.
