Job summary

Alliance for Justice seeks a Senior Director, Foundation Relations to lead a high-impact foundation fundraising program. You will shape strategy, oversee grant proposals and budgets, and coordinate with senior leaders to expand unrestricted and multi-year funding.

You will manage donor communications, cultivate relationships with foundations, and translate policy work into compelling narratives for funders. Remote-friendly, nationally focused role with occasional travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• Advanced degree or training in law, public policy, or nonprofit advocacy is a plus.
• Demonstrable track record (10–15+ years) in foundation/institutional fundraising and nonprofit development.
• Ability to translate complex policy work into clear funding narratives.
• Strong writing, analytical, and donor-communication skills.
• Experience leading teams and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage foundation portfolio to secure unrestricted and multi-year funding.
• Identify prospects and approaches; stay informed on philanthropic trends.
• Oversee program staff involved in foundation relations and pitches.
• Guide and mentor the Senior Manager, Foundation Relations.
• Draft strategy memos, donor communications, and grant proposals.
• Lead meetings with foundation leaders and prepare briefings for leadership.
• Advise AFJ/AFJ Action leadership on foundation engagement and fundraising strategy.
