Job summary

Prince William County is seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Finance for Financial Reporting & Control to lead a diverse team and drive accounting, reporting, and internal control excellence within a large local government.

The role oversees General Accounting functions, including Technical Accounting, Capital Projects, Capital Assets, and Grants Accounting, reporting to the Deputy Director of Finance. A Master’s degree and CPA are preferred, with Oracle ERP experience valued.

Qualifications

• Minimum: high school diploma or GED with 8 years of progressive financial accounting, auditing, reporting, and internal controls experience.
• Preferred: Master’s in Accounting/Finance/Public Admin; CPA; government accounting experience; Oracle ERP experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for Financial Reporting and Control team across General Accounting functions.
• Oversee preparation of ACFR, PAFR, Single Audit, and other audits.
• Ensure timely month-end and year-end close and accurate financial reporting.
• Serve as SME for technical accounting and chart of accounts aligned with US GAAP, GAS, and GASB.
• Manage vendors, consultants, contracts, and division budgets.
• Improve financial processes and internal controls to mitigate risks and ensure data integrity.
