Job summary

Rex Moore is seeking a Purchasing Agent to source, purchase, and expedite materials, equipment, and services for electrical construction projects. This role partners with project managers, superintendents, estimators, vendors, and warehouse staff to keep materials on time and on budget.

Responsibilities include negotiating pricing, issuing purchase orders, tracking deliveries, resolving discrepancies, and driving cost-saving supplier strategies while maintaining strong vendor relationships.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of purchasing or procurement experience, preferably within electrical/commercial construction.
• Experience purchasing construction materials, tools, equipment, or subcontracted services.
• Strong understanding of procurement processes and supply chain principles.
• Experience with ERP systems and purchase order management.
• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Procure materials, equipment, and services in accordance with project requirements and company policies.
• Review purchase requests for accuracy, completeness, and budget compliance.
• Solicit quotations and negotiate pricing, lead times, and delivery schedules with vendors.
• Generate and issue purchase orders while maintaining accurate procurement records.
• Track and expedite material deliveries to ensure project schedules are maintained.
• Coordinate with Project Managers, Field Operations, Warehouse, and Accounting to resolve purchasing and delivery issues.
• Monitor vendor performance related to pricing, quality, delivery, and customer service.
• Resolve discrepancies involving purchase orders, invoices, shipments, damaged materials, or shortages.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities through strategic sourcing and supplier negotiations.
• Maintain strong relationships with existing vendors while identifying new supplier opportunities.
• Ensure purchasing activities comply with company procedures and contractual requirements.
• Assist with inventory planning and material availability as needed.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Purchasing department.
