Job summary

Seattle Public Schools is seeking a Director of Human Resources based in the JSCEE who will oversee hiring, promotions, transfers, and HR operations across district offices to support student safety and learning.

You will lead HR staff, coordinate with Finance, manage compensation and benefits programs, ensure compliance with bargaining agreements, and drive data-informed decision making and continuous improvement across the department.

Qualifications

• Leads HR strategy and operations in a large school district.
• Oversees eligibility, staffing, compensation, benefits, and HR systems.
• Collaborates with Finance, Legal, Risk, and school leaders to align workforce with district priorities.
• Drives data-informed decision making, audits, and continuous improvement.
• Ensures adherence to bargaining agreements and district policies.

Responsibilities

• Directs decision-making on hiring, promotions, and transfers across regular, hourly, certificated, and classified roles.
• Oversees HR Operations, Employment Services, Class/Comp/Benefits, HRIS, and related staff.
• Provides strategic leadership for compensation, classification, and benefits programs; manages benefits administration with partners.
• Leads workforce planning, recruitment, retention strategies, and succession planning.
• Coordinates with Finance for staffing costs and fiscal planning; ensures compliance with laws and bargaining agreements.
• Uses data, metrics, audits, and stakeholder feedback to inform HR decisions and improve services.
