Job summary

The Greater Richmond Transit Company (GRTC) seeks a visionary Director of Planning & Scheduling to lead the development, design, and optimization of public transportation across the Richmond region.

This senior role drives service planning, scheduling, and performance analysis, collaborates with local governments, planning agencies, and community stakeholders, and mentors a team of planners to deliver safe, reliable, equitable, and innovative mobility solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Engineering, Public Administration, Geography, or related field.
• Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in transit planning, scheduling, transportation planning, or related disciplines.
• Three (3) years of supervisory or management experience.
• Demonstrated experience with transit scheduling systems and planning software.
• Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic planning and service development for transit networks.
• Direct fixed-route scheduling activities and schedule implementation.
• Evaluate ridership trends and develop data-driven investment recommendations.
• Collaborate with local governments, planning agencies, and community stakeholders.
• Mentor and develop planning staff; manage budgets and resources.
