Job summary

The City of New York's Department of Homeless Services seeks an Administrative Director of Social Services NM-I to oversee program operations, case management and housing placement for shelter clients.

Ideal candidates will have a baccalaureate degree with managerial experience, strong communication skills, and ability to work with brokers/landlords; CARES proficiency is a plus. This role offers public service commitment and a union-friendly environment.

Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with four years of progressively responsible experience, including one year at the administrative or managerial level in a large governmental agency or equivalent.
• Alternatively, education and/or experience equivalent to the above requirements with a baccalaureate degree and managerial experience.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with shelter staff, brokers and landlords.

Responsibilities

• Provide oversight to ensure overall case management and placement services and handle operational matters when appropriate.
• Offer technical assistance and supervision to social services staff.
• Ensure efficient permanent placements for housing-ready clients and interpret agency policies for compliance.
• Implement program guidelines and participate in new initiatives and strategies; modify as needed to enhance services.
• Liaise with shelter staff and providers to facilitate client placement and coordinate with DHS Training Bureau for staff training.
• Interface with DHS contracted sites and monitor client noncompliance with protections and entitlements.
• Oversee referrals to income-based and long-term shelter programs; monitor weekly housing applications and case reviews.
• Chair weekly social services meetings to discuss client moves, contracts and follow-ups.
