Job summary

The City of New York Department of Homeless Services (DHS) seeks an Administrative Director of Social Services M-II to oversee the Shelter Operations Division, ensuring safety, compliance, and effective bed management across shelter systems. The role leads social services delivery, coordinates with community groups and the Community Board, and ensures staff adherence to City and Agency policies.

Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree and at least four years in a senior social services role;

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required with four years of progressively responsible experience in a large governmental agency or similar setting.
• Graduate education may substitute for experience as described above.
• LCSW/LMSW license may substitute for three years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Ensure health, safety and welfare of DHS clients and on-site staff.
• Monitor site cleanliness and compliance with laws, regulations, and directives.
• Oversee bed assignments and coordinate transport with Vacancy Control; report shelter census.
• Guide social services and develop, monitor, and execute independence plans.
• Participate in weekly case conferences and maintain community relations.
• Supervise facility administrative functions, enforce time/leave regulations and codes.
• Based on 24/7 coverage and shift alignment.
