Job summary

UCSF is seeking a Director of Major Capital Projects to lead the university's largest and most complex campus capital initiatives. The role entails direct ownership of the project lifecycle, from feasibility through closeout, with accountability for scope, budget, schedule, quality, safety, and customer objectives.

The Director will build and guide cross-functional teams (up to 70 organizations and 100+ contributors), manage governance, and drive integrated Lean delivery across multiple UCSF

Qualifications

• 15 years of experience in institutional or governmental project delivery including planning, design, construction, environmental issues, and regulatory practices.
• 10+ years of experience leading personnel, including selection, training and performance management.
• 10+ years of experience in written, verbal, and interpersonal communication with multiple constituencies.
• 5+ years of experience with Lean processes and tools.
• Expert knowledge of UCSF vision, mission, and capital project planning and development.
• Demonstrated experience with construction management of complex projects with budgets > $100M.
• Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Planning, Business Administration, Real Estate Development, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership for delivery of UCSF's largest and most complex campus capital projects.
• Direct management and oversight of two or more concurrent Major Capital Projects (TPC ≥ $70M).
• Lead project strategy, negotiations, risk/change management, stakeholder engagement, and executive communications.
• Create and lead integrated project teams (up to 70 internal/external organizations; 100+ contributors).
• Ensure projects comply with UCSF/UC standards, governance, and Lean delivery practices.
• Oversee reporting to Executive Oversight Committee on scope, budget, schedule, risk, and progress.
