Job summary

University of California, Berkeley seeks a Director of Capital Projects to lead the design and construction of major capital investments, including renovations, expansions, and new facilities. You will collect, develop, and analyze technical data to determine requirements, prepare specifications, materials, equipment, and estimated costs with completion timelines.

This exempt, full-time role requires advanced budgeting skills, strong leadership of a multi-disciplinary staff, and collaboration

Qualifications

• Expert knowledge in planning, design, constructability and managing construction projects.
• Experience with design-build and construction company management.
• Strong understanding of regulatory, legal and financial aspects of capital projects.
• Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and manage budgets and schedules.

Responsibilities

• Provides management and coordination of the entire construction process from design to commissioning.
• Manages budgets, schedules, bidding processes and contract negotiations.
• Leads a staff of architects, engineers, landscape architects and project managers.
• Liaises with campus service providers to advance project interests and ensure compliance.
• Prepares monthly/annual reports for senior management and committee oversight.
• Develops and enforces standards for project design, costs and timelines.
