Job summary

Corgi Insurance Inc. in San Francisco is seeking a Controller to own the accounting function, ensure accurate books, run the monthly close, and deliver timely financial statements.

You will work closely with the CFO and Head of Accounting to build a scalable financial infrastructure as the company grows. The role requires a CPA and 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, deep GAAP knowledge, and strong controls, reconciliations, audit, and leadership skills.

Qualifications

• CPA required with 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.
• Experience owning or leading a monthly close process.
• Experience managing accounting operations across multiple functions.
• Strong balance sheet reconciliations and internal controls.
• Experience with external auditors and tax advisors.
• Excellent Excel / Google Sheets skills and modern accounting systems.
• High attention to detail and ability to work with senior leadership.

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day accounting operations and general ledger.
• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
• Prepare and review monthly and quarterly financial statements and management reporting.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, expense accounting, and reconciliations.
• Ensure accurate recording of accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and depreciation.
• Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Ensure GAAP compliance and regulatory requirements.
• Manage chart of accounts and accounting structure as the business grows.
• Oversee intercompany accounting and reconciliations.
• Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and external accounting requirements.
• Partner with finance on budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Monitor cash activity and banking relationships.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems, and automation.
• Manage and develop members of the accounting team.
• Serve as a key accounting partner to leadership.
