Job summary

Candid is a nonprofit providing data and insights about the social sector. The Controller & Director of Accounting will oversee accounting operations, GAAP reporting, and a team of six, supporting a $37M operating budget and ~150 staff.

Remote work with NYC-area in-person summits; travel may be required for meetings. Reporting to the COFO, you will manage month-end close, revenue recognition, grants accounting, audits, and compliance, while driving process improvements and integrating AI tools

Qualifications

• BS in Accounting or Finance, CPA preferred.
• 12 years of relevant accounting experience.
• Minimum 5 years supervising staff.
• Experience with SaaS and subscription accounting incl. ASC 606.
• Nonprofit accounting principles and controls; Form 990 a plus.
• Proficiency with systems: NetSuite, Salesforce, Stripe, UltiPro, Avalara, Tipalti, Nexonia, PBCS; strong Excel; AI use is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including AP/AR, GL, and payroll.
• Manage month-end and year-end closes and financial reporting.
• Own revenue recognition across revenue streams per ASC 606/ASC 958.
• Oversee grant/contract accounting and funder reporting.
• Prepare financial statements and coordinate audits and tax filings.
• Manage treasury, cash forecasting, banking relationships, and COFO coordination.
• Develop accounting policies and internal controls compliant with GAAP.
• Drive process improvements and leverage AI to shorten close cycles.
• Provide financial analysis to support strategic decisions and planning.
• Mentor accounting staff and collaborate cross-functionally.
