Job summary

Travelers is seeking an experienced underwriter to join the Commercial Surety team in the United States. You will evaluate risk, price solutions, and build strong relationships with clients, agents, and brokers to provide surety products.

You will manage a defined book of business, negotiate to maximize profitability, and travel to meet with partners as needed. This role supports Travelers’ risk appetite and growth objectives across domestic markets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 3–5 years underwriting experience.
• Working knowledge of products, the regulatory environment, and local market conditions.
• Strong critical thinking skills to underwrite, market, and analyze information.
• Excellent negotiation and communication with agents and brokers.

Responsibilities

• Manage profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business.
• Underwrite and negotiate customer accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
• Execute underwriting strategies across your book of business to achieve profit and growth objectives.
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners to identify cross‑selling opportunities.
• Meet with agents and brokers to market and sell Travelers products and write/retain accounts.
• Travel to meetings as required.
• Develop and execute individual agency sales plans aligned with team goals.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
