Job summary

The City of Somerville is seeking an experienced Capital Projects leader to manage the department responsible for strategic capital investments in City buildings and systems. You will oversee planning, budgeting, and coordination with Public Works for ongoing operations and maintenance.

Ideal candidates hold a bachelor’s degree in architecture/engineering/construction management with 5–7 years in related fields, and possess licenses in engineering or related professions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or related field; 5–7 years in construction, real estate, facilities management.

Responsibilities

• Oversee annual capital investment program for building improvements and ADA compliance.
• Manage department staff, monitoring progress and conducting performance reviews.
• Develop scopes of work and budgets for building projects.
• Monitor contracts with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure quality delivery.
• Review contract amendments, change orders, and payments.
• Assist in long-range capital planning and prioritization of projects.
