Job summary

Covington & Burling LLP seeks a strategic, results-driven business development manager to lead strategy for the corporate, tax and financial services groups. You will work with a global Marketing & Business Development team, report to the Assistant Director for Business Development for Corporate, and partner with practice and industry leaders to drive client development and external communications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in business, marketing, communications, or related field; MBA/JD a plus.
• Minimum of three years in professional services marketing and business development; law firm experience desirable.
• Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership and initiative.
• High energy, creativity and value-added orientation.
• Strong multi-project management and accountability.
• Experience with website, databases and knowledge management tools.
• Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; Salesforce a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and coordinate strategic business development plans for assigned groups; manage execution and measure outcomes.
• Develop and monitor marketing & BD budgets for assigned practice groups.
• Act as primary point of contact for practice group leadership and broader partnership.
• Implement BD initiatives and programs around new business generation with existing and new clients; conceive new projects.
• Prepare client pitch materials including responses to RFPs and track win/loss records.
• Leverage Market Research to analyze opportunities and prep for client meetings.
• Attend and prepare for practice group meetings; report on BD activities and progress.
• Monitor trade press to identify prospective client leads and coordinate cross-practice efforts.
