Job summary

Arnold & Porter is seeking a Business Development Manager to support premier transactional practices, including Bankruptcy & Restructuring, Tax, Private Client Services, Project Finance, Sovereign Finance, and Syndicated & Leveraged Finance, based in New York or Washington, DC.

The role partners with practice chairs and attorneys to develop BD strategies, drive client growth, lead pitches and proposals, and elevate the firm’s market profile.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum of six years of marketing and business development experience.
• Prior law firm or professional services experience preferred.
• Experience supporting corporate, finance, restructuring, tax, or related transactional practices strongly preferred.
• Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated success managing complex projects and competing priorities.
• Ability to build credibility and strong working relationships with partners and senior stakeholders.
• Experience supervising and mentoring team members.
• Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• High level of professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Experience with CRM platforms, Foundation, and other marketing or financial databases is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic business development plans for select transactional practice areas.
• Lead pitches, proposals, and RFP responses; coach attorneys for client meetings.
• Oversee marketing collateral, practice descriptions, and client-facing materials.
• Coordinate events, webinars, and thought leadership initiatives.
• Lead strategy and submissions for law directories and awards (e.g., Chambers).
• Identify sponsorship and speaking engagement opportunities.
• Support lateral partner integration with targeted client planning.
• Manage practice group budgets and evaluate ROI of BD initiatives.
• Utilize CRM and related tools to support client targeting and relationship management.
• Supervise and mentor BD professionals; ensure coverage across practice groups.
