Job summary

AbbVie seeks a Principal AI Engineer II to define the AI strategy and architecture that scales across multiple business areas. You will lead the design of secure, reusable AI platforms and contribute to enterprise-wide AI adoption.

You will mentor engineers and collaborate with Quality, Regulatory, Legal, Privacy, and scientific teams to deliver compliant, business-ready AI solutions. This role is based in North Chicago, IL, with opportunities to influence at scale.

Qualifications

• Experience designing, deploying, and operating production-scale AI and machine learning systems.
• Experience working in a regulated environment, preferably pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, medical device, or life sciences.
• Excellent communication and ability to influence senior leaders and diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Define and advance AI engineering strategy, architecture, standards, and roadmaps aligned with business and technology objectives.
• Architect and build secure, scalable AI platforms, services, and components for enterprise adoption.
• Lead production-grade AI solutions from concept through deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Integrate AI platforms with AWS services and enterprise data, security, and infrastructure environments.
• Establish practices for testing, release management, observability, and incident response.
