Job summary

HNTB Corporation in Massachusetts is seeking a Stormwater & Utilities Section Manager to lead a team of 4–7 drainage/stormwater and utility design engineers, providing technical direction and delivering transportation projects for public clients.

You will manage budgets, mentor staff, coordinate with other sections, and help win work through disciplined project delivery and client engagement. A PE license and strong leadership are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 8 years of practical experience including 2 years of leadership experience.
• Experience providing technical advice, mentoring, and support for management and staff.
• Interacting with clients regarding projects, technical matters and industry trends.
• Hiring & developing staff in the group, with an emphasis on mid and entry level engineers.

Responsibilities

• Develops, monitors and manages the section's operating budget in support of the group or office operating budget and forecast updates.
• Responsible for the management, growth and professional development of discipline‑specific engineering section.
• Coordinates section activities establishes priorities and staff to jobs.
• Ensures staff development, mentoring and training needs are being met.
• Collaborates with other Sections and Departments within the office on work‑sharing needs and opportunities.
• Supports the implementation of the firm’s strategic plan and SSA process on project pursuits in the Section and office.
• Supports the contracting process through project delivery and contracting activities including scope, work plan and fee reviews.
• Supports project delivery processes including Work Planning and Monthly Project Reviews to ensure quality work.
• Assists in marketing responsibilities, including client discovery, proposal generation, interviews, and win‑to‑work activities.
• Recruits, hires, develops and retains section staff, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews.
• Manages assigned project management activities and performs technical discipline tasks.
• Leads a team including the direct and indirect supervision of at least 5 but typically 7 - 10 or more employees.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
