Job summary

The City of Burlington NC is seeking an experienced civil engineer to support the Water Resources Stormwater Division. You will perform professional civil engineering, technical, and administrative work to ensure infrastructure projects meet hydrology standards and comply with NPDES Phase II requirements.

You will coordinate daily stormwater operations, engineering reviews, and regulatory reporting while applying independent engineering judgement and problem-solving for resident stormwater

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field with 3 years in stormwater engineering design, project management, and construction.
• North Carolina PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
• NC Stormwater Control Measure Inspection/ Maintenance Certification or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
• Valid Driver's License.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Support the City’s Water Resources Stormwater Division with professional civil engineering, technical, and administrative tasks.
• Ensure infrastructure projects meet hydrology standards and comply with NPDES Phase II requirements.
• Coordinate daily stormwater operations, engineering reviews, and regulatory reporting.
• Provide technical guidance to contractors and the public; on-site engineering evaluations of stormwater infrastructure.
