Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; and
  • experience and/or training in stormwater maintenance, construction, landscaping, concrete work, utility work, etc.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with stormwater and drainage maintenance work as directed by the Drainage Maintenance Crew Lead, and Street Department Supervisor.
  • Clean and clear inlets, basins, ditches, culverts, pipes, flow lines, and other drainage areas.
  • Assist with drainage repair, erosion control, pipe exposure, inlet repairs, basin repairs, and site restoration.
  • Report visible hazards, blocked drainage flows, damaged infrastructure, and unsafe conditions to the Drainage Maintenance Crew Lead or Street Department Supervisor.
  • Perform field work for stormwater and drainage maintenance activities in compliance with established City and Departmental policies and procedures to support the effective and efficient operation of the Street Department.
  • Assist the Drainage Maintenance Crew Lead and Street Department Supervisor with drainage maintenance, corrective repairs, preventative inspections, and drainage response activities.
  • Clean and remove leaves, sediment, trash, branches, debris, and other obstructions from storm drain inlets, basins, culverts, pipes, ditches, flow lines, headwalls, outfalls, and other drainage structures.
  • Dig, shovel, grade, load, haul, rake, sweep, and perform site preparation related to stormwater and drainage maintenance.
  • Assist with pipe exposure, pipe replacement support, inlet top repair, minor concrete repair, ditch grading, erosion control placement, riprap installation, and restoration of disturbed areas.
  • Identify visible site conditions, water flow, restrictions, erosion, sediment buildup, damaged structures, collapsed areas, exposed pipe, and other concerns that may require follow-up review.
  • Report immediate safety concerns involving open inlets, collapsed structures, undermined pavement, sinkholes, exposed pipe, flooding, erosion near roadways or sidewalks, and unsafe conditions within public rights-of-way or city-maintained areas.
  • Stage and maintain work zones using traffic control devices, cones, barricades, signage, and other safety measures as directed, and in accordance with City procedures.
  • Operate City vehicles, trailers, hand tools, power tools, compact equipment used in street and drainage maintenance, as authorized and assigned.
  • Loads, unloads, transports, and organizes tools, materials and equipment as needed.
  • Assist with documenting work completed, visible infrastructure conditions, materials used, equipment used, safety concerns, and follow-up needs in the applicable City work order, asset management, or reporting system as directed.
  • Respond to storm events, roadway flooding, blocked drainage flow, and other emergency drainage-related service calls as required.
  • Communicate with supervisors, crew members, other City employees, contractors, utility representatives, and residents in a professional manner when performing duties.
  • Follow safe work practices, use required personal protective equipment, and maintain awareness of traffic, equipment, water flow, uneven ground, and other field hazards.
  • Maintain vehicles, tools, equipment, and assigned work areas in clean, safe, and serviceable condition.
  • Operate a computer or mobile device to manage work order, asset management, database, spreadsheet, and word processing software in the performance of essential job functions.
  • Complete other duties and tasks as assigned.
