Job summary

McFarland Johnson is seeking a motivated Drainage/Stormwater Engineer to join our Water Resources Group. You’ll work on transportation, bridge, aviation, municipal, and site development projects, focusing on stormwater management and hydrologic analysis.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field required.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
  • 2–5 years of experience in water resources, stormwater, drainage, or civil engineering.
  • Familiarity with hydrologic and hydraulic principles and stormwater design concepts.
  • Experience with modeling and design tools such as Bentley Open Roads Designer, OpenRoads Drainage and Utilities, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and HydroCAD preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for roadway corridors, bridges, drainage systems and stormwater management projects.
  • Support design of stormwater infrastructure per federal, state, and local regs.
  • Prepare calculations, technical reports, permit applications, construction plans, specs, and cost estimates.
  • Use H&H modeling, CAD, and GIS tools to support analysis, design, documentation, and project delivery.
  • Conduct field investigations, site assessments, drainage evaluations, and data collection.
  • Support permitting efforts including stormwater, wetlands, floodplain, MS4/NPDES, and erosion controls.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies and support environmental permitting.
  • Collaborate with engineers, planners, environmental scientists, and PMs on multidisciplinary projects.
