Job summary

McFarland Johnson is seeking a motivated Drainage / Stormwater Engineer to join our Water Resources Group. You will work on diverse transportation, bridge, aviation, municipal, and development projects, performing hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and drainage design.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver practical, sustainable solutions from planning through construction, leveraging modeling, CAD, and GIS tools, while staying current with regulations and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in water resources, stormwater, drainage, or civil engineering.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
  • Knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic principles, stormwater management practices, and civil engineering design standards.
  • Experience with modeling and design tools such as Bentley OpenRoads Designer, OpenRoads Drainage and Utilities, AutoCAD Civil 3D, HydroCAD.
  • Familiarity with DOT/client drainage manuals, stormwater design criteria, and agency requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for roadway corridors, bridge crossings, storm drain systems, and drainage networks.
  • Support the design of stormwater management and drainage infrastructure per regulations.
  • Prepare calculations, technical reports, permit applications, construction plans, and cost estimates.
  • Use H&H modeling, CAD, and GIS tools to support analysis, design, documentation, and delivery.
  • Conduct field investigations, site assessments, and data collection.
  • Coordinate permitting efforts including stormwater, wetlands, and erosion control.
  • Collaborate with engineers, planners, environmental scientists, and project managers on multidisciplinary projects.
