Job summary

SCDES is seeking a Water Quality Compliance Specialist I to perform inspections of stormwater sites under direct supervision and to develop an understanding of the stormwater program. You may assist other regional offices to meet statewide commitments and support other water programs in the Charleston BRLS Office.

Qualifications

• Associates degree requirement or equivalent experience in a related technical field.
• High school diploma or GED with two years of environmental health or related experience acceptable as alternative.
• Certification in environmental field qualifies as related experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections and follow-up inspections of stormwater construction sites to ensure compliance with regulations and permits.
• Conduct compliance evaluations of industrial stormwater facilities and prepare reports and enforcement referrals.
• Support development and updates of BMP manuals and internal/external inspection documents.
• Investigate stormwater complaints and drive timely resolution and enforcement when needed.
• Attend staff meetings and assist other water programs in BRLS Charleston Office.
