Job summary

Redner's Markets in Delaware seeks an Assistant Store Director to share in store responsibilities and operations, especially in the absence of the Store Director. This exempt role will direct overall operations and guide department managers to maintain high standards and profitability.

The incumbent will schedule staff, train employees, greet customers, resolve complaints, and enforce safety, display, and inventory procedures to support a smooth, customer‑focused operation.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school education; college education is helpful but not required.
• At least 3 years of experience in the supermarket industry with successful participation in management programs.
• Working knowledge of store operations.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills for dealing with customers, employees, and vendors.
• Basic math skills to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, gross margins, markup, percentages, proportions, ratios, and volume.
• Ability to verify vendor invoice charges and counts, and complete required accounting reports including inventory and receiving.
• Excellent organization and follow through skills.

Responsibilities

• Actively support the Store Director in the fulfillment of their responsibilities.
• Responsible for management of store personnel.
• Assist Store Director and other department managers with training and development of all employees.
• Greet all customers and be observant while working.
• Handle customer complaints in a prompt and professional manner.
• Identify and pricing discrepancies and inform the proper personnel.
• Responsible for checking ads and ensure proper displays.
• Implement and maintain all safety standards as directed by Loss Prevention and Risk Management departments.
• Oversee sanitation program, housekeeping, and equipment maintenance control.
• Assist in contributing to a profitable operation of the store.
• Enforce receiving procedures according to company policies.
• Prepare a weekly schedule based on projected sales volume and workload in the absence of the Store Director.
• Assist in planning merchandise displays to obtain maximum sales and profits.
• Monitor dairy, bread, frozen, and grocery shelves and displays for freshness, quality, and price.
• Abide by all company policies as stated in the Employee Handbook.
• Supplemental functions: Assist in office as needed; Daily refrigeration checks; Assist in other departments as needed.
