Job summary

The Building Company is seeking a seasoned Store Manager to drive profitability and growth at our Worcester location. You will manage finances, procurement, stock, and merchandising while leading store staff to deliver exceptional customer service in line with company policies.

With 5–10 years in retail and 3+ years in mid-level management, you will plan budgets, oversee operations, and ensure health and safety compliance while upholding our values and culture.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 compulsory.
  • Commerce bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Financial or management diploma preferred.
  • 5–10 years of retail experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years in junior-to-mid level management.
  • Experience in the related industry.
  • Strong financial acumen.
  • Procurement and logistics skills.
  • Merchandising knowledge.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act preferable.

  • Manage profitability of the store by controlling costs and maximizing sales.

Job description

The main purpose is to drive and grow the profitability of the store through the effective management of employees, financial, and technological resources, ensuring efficient application of the company’s policies and procedures and implementing management best practice to exceed stakeholder expectations.

Job Description
  • Manage profitability: ensure continuity, growth and profitability of the store by managing costs and maximizing sales turnover and returns. Identify new business opportunities, take calculated risks and generate innovative ideas to implement opportunities and maximise sales.
  • Planning and budgeting: together with the Operations Executive and Regional Operations Manager, interpret business objectives into an operating plan for the store.
  • Procurement, stock control and merchandising: ensure the inward logistics of the store run smoothly, purchase products in line with the company procurement policies, keep optimal stock levels and control stock losses.
  • Maintain optimal stock levels.
  • Financial management: ensure the store budget aligns with agreed operating plans and is adhered to, while monitoring and controlling all financial processes in line with best practices.
  • Customer service: resolve complaints effectively, coordinate promotions, advertising and public relations to enhance the brand's market share in line with company procedures.
  • Accountability for day‑to‑day operations, administration, customer sales and service, plus overall management and control of branch employees.
  • Operational analysis: analyse information to diagnose problems or success areas, enhance successes and resolve problem areas with the Operations Management Support Team.
  • People management: inspire, motivate, guide, develop and lead employees to meet store objectives, applying all company policies and best‑practice principles to maintain a harmonious labour environment.
  • Legislative compliance and corporate governance: ensure legal compliance with all mandatory legislation and take appropriate action on all legal matters.
  • Promote and uphold company values and culture.
Job Requirements
  • Grade 12 compulsory.
  • Preferably commerce bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Preferably financial or management diploma.
  • 5‑10 years retail experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years in junior‑mid level management.
  • Previous related industry experience.
  • Financial acumen.
