Job summary

Dollar General Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, supervising staff, managing inventory, stocking and receiving, and handling paperwork. This temporary role develops an external candidate for the Store Manager position over a limited period.

The role emphasizes recruiting support, merchandising, inventory control, cash handling, and daily store operations, including opening/closing duties, safety, and reporting on sales and expenses.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
• Experience in retail (1 year) preferred for external candidates.
• Cash handling and inventory knowledge required.
• Ability to learn IBM cash register functions and generate reports.
• Knowledge of store merchandising, safety and theft prevention practices.
• Familiarity with coordinating staffing, training and compliance with policies.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
• Assist with merchandising, staging, stocking and pricing per store guidelines.
• Assist in inventory management and prepare inventories.
• Follow ordering practices to meet in-stock targets.
• Provide customer service leadership and role model company policies.
• Participate in opening/closing store activities and bank deposits.
• Support cash controls, asset protection and cash handling procedures.
• Maintain clean, safe, and well-stocked stores.
• Assist in reviewing operating statements for trends and opportunities.
• Complete paperwork and documentation on time per guidelines.
