Summary:

The incumbent supports the Operating Room schedule by decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, packaging, and sterilizing surgical instrumentation. The incumbent is a vital member of the Perioperative Services Team and must adhere to all standards of practice. They must ensure the surgical instrument set is assembled appropriately for each procedure and that all instruments and supplies are dispatched correctly. The role involves facilitating departmental goals, performing daily assignments, and contributing to departmental projects. The technician also serves as a resource and is responsible for their professional development.

Responsibilities:
  • Decontaminate, inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instruments and linens, identifying items in need of repair.
  • Follow established priorities, manage the OR schedule, and handle requests for instruments.
  • Use automated instrument tracking software and document processes accurately.
  • Maintain knowledge of disinfectants, chemical germicides, and sterilization procedures.
  • Assist clinicians in surgical specialties as needed.
  • Demonstrate initiative, professionalism, and effective communication skills.
  • Adapt to schedule changes and accept feedback constructively.
Credentials:
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (Required)
  • Certification as a Central Processing Technician or CRCST must be obtained within 18 months of hire.
Education or Equivalent Experience:
  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • 0-1 years of instrument processing experience preferred.
