Job summary

Sharp HealthCare in California is hiring a Sterile Processing Technician to maintain and distribute surgical instruments and supplies for patient care. The role requires a HS diploma and either recent SPD experience or completion of an accredited Sterile Processing Technician program; CSPDT certification is preferred.

This position operates under a SEIU-UHW collective bargaining agreement, with on‑call duties, weekend/as needed availability, and an hourly pay range reflecting the union contract.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of surgical instrumentation, sterile techniques, general hospital supplies and equipment.
• Ability to properly decontaminate, inspect, assemble, sterilize, and deliver surgical instruments and medical equipment to clinical areas in safe, ready to use condition.
• Ability to follow strict infection prevention standards, operate sterilization and disinfection equipment, perform detailed quality checks, track instrument sets, and maintain accurate documentation to support patient safety.
• Must have great attention to detail, adherence to regulatory guidelines, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast paced, highly precise environment that directly supports safe surgical and procedural care.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and distribute disposable supplies and durable medical equipment for patient care.
• Communicate shift updates and report malfunctions to supervisor.
• Complete initial competencies and ongoing assessments.
• Document load contents and labeling, and track sterilizer results.
• Disassemble and assemble instrument trays; load/operate sterilizers.
• Set annual development goals and maintain performance records.
• Restock carts and prepare case carts; report shortages.
• Use resources cost-effectively and prep instrumentation for surgeries.
