Job summary

Mayo Clinic is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to support the operating room team by preparing and delivering sterile supplies and instruments. Under supervision, you will clean, package, and process equipment, manage inventory, and operate autoclaves and related devices.

The role requires CRCST certification within 18 months of hire, 18+ years old, and preferred experience in a surgical/medical instrumentation setting.

Qualifications

• CRCST certification within 18 months of hire.
• Must be 18 years of age prior to start date.
• Prefer two years of experience handling sterilization of surgical/medical/dental instrumentation within the past four years, or vocational certificate as Central Service Technician or Patient Care Assistant within the last two years.
• Alternatively, at least two years of experience as a Central Service Technician or Patient Care Assistant in an acute care setting within the last five years.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
• Demonstrates adaptability in unpredictable perioperative situations.
• Effective communication with a variety of people in a direct, empathetic, and articulate manner.
• Ability to frequently lift/carry 25 pounds or more; occasional work above shoulder level.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver medical/surgical supplies, instruments and equipment for surgical procedures.
• Clean, package and process surgical equipment and instrumentation; maintain inventory and storage in the core.
• Operate and troubleshoot power equipment to process instruments (autoclaves, washer/disinfector, ultrasonic cleaners).
• May be required to drive occasionally to perform job responsibilities.
