Job summary

Independence Health is seeking a Technician, Central Service to provide sterile instrumentation and trays to the Department of Surgery and other hospital departments. Works under the Sr. Technician for Central Services or Operating Room Management.

Responsibilities include decontamination, cleaning, wrapping, sterilization, labeling, and recordkeeping; ensuring proper cycles, packaging, transport and equipment maintenance. Rotating shifts with local travel may be required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; healthcare environment preferred.
• Strong leadership, organization, independent thinking and judgment.
• Ability to communicate complex topics to diverse audiences.
• Basic working knowledge of computers and office equipment.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminates and inspects surgical instruments and trays.
• Cleans and decontaminates reusable patient equipment and ensures safety checks.
• Wraps and labels trays, records sterilization data, and prepares reruns.
• Loads sterilizers, monitors cycles, and ensures proper cooling and storage.
• Transports instruments between departments and maintains clean work areas.
• Performs housekeeping, case cart cleaning, and daily recordkeeping.
• Performs daily testing, equipment checks, and supports OR and surgical staff.
