Job summary

The University of Rochester is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to support the ambulatory surgical center with instrument preparation, decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and material distribution. The role emphasizes sterile technique, inventory control, and collaboration with clinical staff in a high-volume setting.

The position requires a High School diploma or equivalent with 3 years direct sterile processing experience, or an equivalent education/experience mix. Evening shift.

Qualifications

• High School diploma equivalent with 3 years direct experience in sterile processing or perioperative settings.
• Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong knowledge of surgical instrumentation, supplies and equipment.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft suite programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
• Strong ability to communicate, orally and in writing.
• Ability to proofread documents and check for accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Prepares instruments, equipment and supplies adhering to sterile techniques, utilizing technical knowledge.
• Responsible for proper care and handling of instruments and facilitating room turnover between cases.
• Assists the clinical staff by performing assistive/advocacy services in caring for the patient.
• Decontaminates, processes, assembles, stores and distributes medical devices and supplies used in patient care while adhering to asepsis and infection control.
• Oversees the training of Sterile Processing employees.
• Performs decontamination, assembly, sterilization, storage, cart setup, and distribution.
• Monitors workflow and performance of the central service technician team; documents information and maintains records.
