Job summary

YMCA of the East Bay in Fremont is seeking a dedicated Before and Afterschool Teacher for the Y-Kids program. You will plan and implement curriculum, supervise activities, provide positive reinforcement, and ensure a safe, engaging environment for school-age children.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; AA or Bachelor's degree preferred
• Meets educational and experience qualifications established by CA state law and Community Care Licensing including 12 ECE units
• 1 year of previous experience working in a professional child care or school aged program
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
• At least 18 years of age
• Pre-employment health screening and TB clearance
• Current certificates for Pediatric First Aid and CPR, including a total of 15 hours of preventative health and safety training or completion of this training within 90 days of hire
• LiveScan fingerprint and criminal record clearance

Responsibilities

• Plan & implement curriculum within established guidelines and prepare necessary supplies & equipment for activities
• Work cooperatively with staff to ensure program quality
• Provide direction to Assistant Teachers/Teacher’s Aides as needed
• Promote individual growth and enrichment while supporting children’s development
• Care for health and well-being of children; give first aid and report incidents promptly
• Use appropriate discipline methods reinforcing positive behaviors for the age group
• Report notable behavior to supervisor per policies and procedures
• Maintain clear communication with families, staff, and partners about child development and conferences
• Maintain required program records
• Attend program activities, trainings, staff meetings and events
• Keep the center clean and presentable at all times
• Ensure Licensing standards are met at all times
• Perform other duties as assigned
