Job summary

YMCA of the East Bay is seeking an Afterschool Teachers Aide for the Albany/El Sobrante area. The part-time role supports the Y-Kids program, planning activities and helping children with learning, play and healthy snacks.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, ECE units, and CPR/First Aid certification or completion within 90 days. Strong communication and ability to relate to diverse families are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Enroll in at least 3 ECE units per semester until 12 units completed with a grade of C or better.
• One year of Early Childhood classroom experience preferred.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all backgrounds.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Pre-employment health screening and TB clearance.
• Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification (15 hours) or completion within 90 days of hire.
• LiveScan fingerprint and criminal background clearance.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning & implementing curriculum within established guidelines and prepare supplies for relevant program activities.
• Work cooperatively with all staff to ensure the quality of the program.
• Help to achieve YMCA Child Care program goals by promoting individual growth and exploration, recognizing each child’s needs while providing opportunities to enrich their development.
• Care for the health and well-being of children while they are in the program. Give first aid treatment when necessary and report any incidents or injuries promptly to parent, director and branch as necessary.
• Provide appropriate and consistent discipline methods that reinforce positive behaviors in an age appropriate manner.
• Report and document notable behavior and situations to the appropriate supervisor, according to policies and procedures.
• Initiate, strengthen and maintain good communication with families, children, and school personnel; provide feedback to parents regarding development.
• Maintain required program records.
• Attend and actively participate in regular program activities, department trainings, staff meetings and special events.
• Keep the center clean and presentable at all times and ensure Licensing standards are met.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

3 units Early Childhood Education per semester until 12 units completed with a grade of C or better

One year of Early Childhood classroom experience preferred

18 years of age
